Water Supply Update
Serving the Communities of Hingham, Hull, & North Cohasset

This continues to be good news for our water supply system and the environment. Our plans are to continue to responsibly monitor and manage our water supply system and maintain our seasonal water restrictions to promote environmental stewardship and ensure that we stay within our allowable withdrawal limits under the state regulated Water Management Act. Seasonal restrictions allow outdoor watering 2 days a week on designated days, after 6 p.m. and before 10 a.m.

Customer Service/Community Outreach

It has been a very busy summer for us. This past month we provided water for several community events including road races, youth boating events, and the Hingham 4th of July Parade. We were a sponsor for the annual Hingham 4th of July festivities, including the road race, the parade as well as the fire works display. This month, as in past years, we will be providing water for the Annual Nantasket Beach run supporting the Hull Boosters. We also look forward to sponsoring and participating in the first Wiffle Ball Summer Classic to benefit Boston Children’s Hospital.

We enjoy working with the communities we serve and look for opportunities to get involved with worthy causes. If you are interested in having Aquarion participate at an event, or have questions about what we can do to help, please contact our Manager of Communications and Operations, Ronit Goldstein at 781-740-6693 or rgoldstein@aquarionwater.com.

News and Notes

Accord Tank - As many of you know we have been planning to re-paint the Accord Tank this fall. However, after bidding the project twice this summer, there were few contractors interested in performing the work in the fall, and thus we only received 2 bids, which were higher than expected. Therefore, in an effort to increase the competitiveness of the bidding process and potentially obtain a lower overall project cost, we will be rebidding the project in September, targeting construction for the spring of 2018.

Hydrant Flushing - In July we successfully flushed 155 fire hydrants during a 2-week period. This process allows us to remove accumulated naturally occurring sediments from the water mains which can cause episodes of discolored water. The flushing program is an important part of maintaining high quality drinking water to all of our customers. To learn more about discolored water, please visit our website at: www.aquarionwater.com/MA/discolored-water-faqs

We will continue to flush areas of northeast Hingham (in the vicinity of Beal Street, Lincoln Street, and Crow Point) in August 2017. The remainder of Hingham (southeast), north Cohasset, and Hull will be flushed in the fall 2017. Hydrants are flushed in the evenings from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. To find out details about our nightly flushing schedule, please check out our alert listings at www.aquarionwater.com, or try the following link: www.aquarionwater.com/alerts.cfm?city=Hingham,MA.

Customer Conservation - Although we are continuing with our customer water conservation program, we are planning a month long delay to reorganize the program. To date, over 100 households have been retrofitted with high efficiency toilets (nearly 200), faucet aerators (131), and showerheads (104), with an estimated water savings of almost 3,000 gallons per day or over 1 million gallons per year. In addition, we have had almost a dozen customers sign up for the $250 rebate towards a high efficiency washing machine and the $2,500 rebate eliminating their outdoor irrigation systems.
