Water Supply Update
Serving the Communities of Hingham, Hull, & North Cohasset

Not only is the drought officially over according to the Drought Task Force, but recorded precipitation amounts this year are greater than average. The precipitation amount recorded at the Water Treatment Plant in Hingham for the month of May was 5.12 inches, which is 1.09 inches above average for the month of May. In addition, we are currently 7.6 inches above the average year to date, however there is still a 1.31 inch deficit carry over from last year. As you may recall we ended 2016 with a precipitation deficit of more than 9 inches. Groundwater and surface water levels are finally at or greater than normal levels. As of the end of May 2017, Accord Pond was at 102% capacity, and overflowing the spillway, which a little better than normal for this time of year.

As we continue to responsibly monitor and manage our water supply system, seasonal water restrictions will remain in effect to promote environmental stewardship and ensure that we stay within our allowable withdrawal limits under the state regulated Water Management Act.
