Aquarion Water Company of Connecticut, which is striving to be Connecticut's Environmental Company, sponsors and supports a host of programs to demonstrate our respect for the environment and our environmental stewardship including:

Aquarion Connecticut Community/Environment Environmental Stewardship - Earth Day 2006:

Aquarion Water Company employees continue to exemplify excellence in community service and environmental appreciation in the 53 New England area cities and towns that our water utilities serve. By encouraging employees to participate in volunteer events throughout our service areas, Aquarion demonstrates a commitment to the continual improvement of our communities. As they have for the past 14 years, Aquarion Water Company employees participated in multiple Earth Day 2006 activities.

img Aquarion employees in Mystic celebrated Earth Day by pruning plants, removing weeds, and topping off mulch at the Mystic Middle School Water Conservation Garden and by participating in the Pequotsepos Denison Nature Center Earth Day Celebration.

In Stamford, employee volunteers assisted with the construction of a universal accessible trail at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center. The Wheels in the Woods Foundation provided a $100,000 grant for the project. An additional group of employees cleared brush from an area that will serve as a future bison
pen. "With many thanks for all of your great work with us, we are deeply grateful," said Melissa Mulrooney, Executive Director of the Center.

In Norfolk, about 13 employee volunteers built a new Amphitheater/Council Camp Fire Ring and cleared areas for campsites at the Frederick Sprague Barbour Scout

Reservation. Additionally, Aquarion purchased and installed a frost-free fire hydrant needed to restore the reservation. In past years, Connecticut projects included:

  • Trail development for physically challenged persons in Fairfield & Westport
  • Renovation of a historic park
  • Downtown area beautification and landscaping
  • Beach improvements and zoo enhancements
"At Aquarion, we are proud of our dedication to environmental stewardship and protection," Charles V. Firlotte, Aquarion President and CEO. "We will continue to proactively conserve and enhance our natural resources for the enjoyment of area citizens, because it's essential to our mission to provide the best quality water and service to our customers," Firlotte added. "We also appreciate the Wheels in the Woods Foundation for providing the financial resources to make this wonderful project possible," he said.

Housatonic Valley Association River Clean-Up:
Aquarion Water Company of Connecticut and its employees for several years have joined other companies and environmental organizations in the annual clean-up of the Housatonic River. This project helps to protect the environment and allows Aquarion Water Company of Connecticut to demonstrate its stewardship of our natural resources.

Save the Sound:
Through financial support and employee volunteerism, Aquarion Water Company of Connecticut has partnered with Save the Sound, Inc., to clean up, improve the quality of and protect Long Island Sound. Money raised on behalf of the organization also has supported environmental education and stewardship programs for children and adults throughout the Fairfield County area. We have helped the organization raise more than $330,000 since 1992 and more than double its membership.
